Introduction
Today’s society is besieged with numerous Geotechnical and Coastal challenges that pose risk to health, life and property The Center for Geotechnical and Coastal Engineering Research, (CGCER), University of Port Harcourt proposes to run the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geotechnical and Coastal Engineering. The recent and up-surging interest in geotechnical and shore protection activities has made Geotechnical / Coastal challenges a front burner issue. Therefore, there is need to train manpower that can rise up to these challenges with solutions that can address the problems. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geotechnical and Coastal Engineering programme has been designed to provide practicing engineers, Academics and Researchers with the advanced Geotechnical and Coastal engineering knowledge and skills required to solve these problems.
The Center for Geotechnical and Coastal Engineering Research has been running a Masters degree programme for the past two years.
Entry /Admission Requirements
To be admitted into the PhD Degree programmes in Geotechnical and Coastal Engineering, candidates must satisfy one of the following categories;
a. Candidates that have successfully completed the relevant M.Sc degree in the University of Port Harcourt with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale in Geotechnical and Coastal Engineering or any other relevant discipline.
b. Candidates with equivalent qualifications from other Universities.
c. Qualified industry staff with relevant M.Sc. (in Civil Engineering or any other closely related discipline) degree can apply.
d. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview /presentation of research proposals. Limited sponsorship opportunity is available for students however, candidates are encouraged to seek for sponsorship from other sponsoring agencies and employers.
